What is Nia?
Nia is the focus of our studio. This movement form - which began some 23 years ago - respects the "Body's Way", the innate and internal body wisdom that informs our physical realm and opens us to other realms. Nia is the first fusion form to incorporate dance (modern, jazz and Duncan as well as ethnic dance); martial arts (aikido, tai chi, and tae kwon do); and healing arts (yoga, Feldenkrais(R) and Alexander Technique. By combining such a rich variety of movement possibilities, Nia provides cardiovascular movement that helps us to self-heal, to become "our own personal trainers." So whether you want a safe, effective and exhilarating workout or are seeking a mind/body practice that will nourish you from the inside out – or both! - Nia may be just what you're looking for. And best of all, Nia is appropriate for all ages and levels of fitness, from professional dancer or athlete to the novice who has never taken a dance or fitness class.
What else do you offer?
At CasaNia, in addition to Nia, you can choose...
dance arts: African Dance, Belly Dance, Modern Dance (not available in the summer)
martial arts: capoeira (Brazilian dance/martial arts form) and Tai Chi (beginners or intermediate)
healing arts: yoga, Feldenkrais and Alexander technique (not available in the summer).
