Chiwahwa Stud

Description

Chiwahwa Stud ( real name Kenville Thompson ) grew up in Portmore, Jamaica where he began wrtiting songs in 1989 at the age of 12. He continued writing through high school concentrating mainly on talent shows and other local events. His debut single "Classic" was produced by Tristan Palmer on the Father G. label in 1995. The song got a little air play but failed to gain any standard interest.

Profile and Credentials

Chiwahwa Stud made an appearance on White River Reggae Bash and Sting in 1997. He recorded dub plates "special" along side many popular artists like Mega Banton, Vybz Kartel, Mr. G and Frisco Kid. Chiwahwa's talent for catchy rhymes and up-to-the-minute dancehall observation led him to America. He quickly put his enthusiasm for Dancehall Reggae to good use on the Asheville sound systems like Cosmic Wind - and has been a special guest on most of the reggae bands in Asheville. He's performed at Bele Chere and Goombay. This could include all the night clubs in the area that you can name. He's opened with Zion Project for the Wailers, Culture Abyssinians and the Meditations.

Philosophy and Comments

Chiwahwa is one of a new generation of Jamaican artists firmly rooted in a solid musical tradition - yet hungry for the way forward.
