Joan Sloss Ed.D. CMT
Massage Therapist specializing in orthopedic massage, biomechanics, and the elimination of chronic joint and muscle pain. Twenty years experience in adjusting the body's mechanical balance to promote pain-free movement.
Profile and Credentials
I began studying human movement, biomechanics, corrective exercise, and movement techniques for structural integration 30 years ago. I was able to heal my own body of a major developmental abnormality, to the extent that I performed professionally in dance over a 15 year period. I was also able to heal myself following a critical injury. I began studying massage techniques in 1984, and continue to study advanced techniques today. I hold a doctorate in dance from Temple University (1982), and have certification in massage from both the Minneapolis School of Massage (1985), and The Colorado School for Healing Arts (1990). I am currently studying Muscle Activation Technique. I have 20 years clinical experience healing muscle & joint pain. My office is in The Spring Hill West Building in So. Lakewood, Colorado.
Philosophy and Comments
Your musculo-skeletal system is dynamic, continually adjusting to the forces acting upon it, and continually meeting the demands of human work and movement. The entire structure must be in balance so that your joints are protected and so that your muscles perform optimally. When the muscular-skeletal system is out-of-balance, pain & restriction appear; when the pain & restriction are not healed, degeneration occurs over time. I apply techniques which help activate and normalize muscle work; which improve muscle metabolism, muscle tonus and muscle responses to central nervous system demands. The result is you gain better posture & integration, freedom & strength of movement, endurance in work and exercise activities. In many cases, surgery is avoided. My patients experience caring and compassionate work. It is a joy to help people feel good, function well and enjoy life.
