I am a traditional midwife..I like that title. My nitch is the Home Birth setting. I believe that I am supporting a tradition of women and their abilities to birth. Traditions that are empowering, centering and social. Traditions that are becoming lost. My children were both born at home. As they walk away to form their own lives, I'm reminded of the importance of choices and support.
Profile and Credentials
I have been a primary practicing midwife since 1982. I am over the 3000 baby mark. I have signs of good wear. Is it worth it? Incredibly so. Those babies are our future. Our thread to birth with dignity. Coupling my BS in Biology, I have earned a CPM through MANA and a CM through the Michigan Midwives Association. These help validate my training through apprenticeship and ongoing education.
Philosophy and Comments
My role as a midwife to families is to provide support, education, monitoring, counsel, and accessability. I hope to help and encourage women and their families to be active participants in their pregnancy and birth. Birth Song is committed to facilitating natural birth, strengthening the family unit and empowering women through their birth transition.
Work Hours and Fee Schedule
I practice in the Grand Rapids area and a one hour circumference. My services include availability, prenatals, lending library, integrated classes, home visit, Birth, postpartum care, filing birth certificate and insurance forms, and newborn screening, if desired. Call for fee information. Birth service fees are to be paid by the birth, unless other arrangements have been made. Some insurance companies are covering Birth Song's services. I do request an initial interview before working with a family. This is important for educations, clarification of services and informed consent. Also offered are Well Woman Exams, pap smears, and cervical cap fittings. Personal Prenatals (1 hour) for individuals not having home births are available.
