Mamaste Yoga Prenatal Yoga
Why Prenatal Yoga?

Yoga is an excellent way to "train" for the marathon of labor and motherhood. Practicing Yoga in pregnancy helps to strengthen and stretch muscles, release tension and maintain good posture. Prenatal yoga also teaches you to relax on command and keep a positive outlook while clearing the mind of the stresses associated with pregnancy and motherhood.

There are many benefits in attending a prenatal yoga class during pregnancy, benefits that are far beyond what you can receive in a regular yoga class. In our classes we teach yoga exercises that help prepare you for labor, delivery and motherhood as well as breathing techniques you can use in labor. Regular attendance assures that you will consistently practice these exercises for greater benefits.

When can I begin attending class?

Our classes are open to pregnant women in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters. We recommend that women take it easy the first 12 weeks of their pregnancy and allow their body that time to become accustomed to the changes of pregnancy. Beginners are welcome, no previous yoga experience is required.

If you practiced yoga before becoming pregnant this does not mean you have to stop your practice all together. Check out our information on yoga for the first trimester for guidelines in modifying your practice.

Program Safety:

Our Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga program conforms with the safety guidelines of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for exercise during and after pregnancy. The program also meets the prenatal fitness standards of reputable fitness organizations such as AFAA and AFPA. You can be sure that our instructors will offer safe postures and adjustments suited to your body and your pregnancy.

Teacher Training:

We offer a prenatal yoga teacher training course for Registered Yoga Teachers who want to become licensed in our method of teaching prenatal yoga. All of our teachers are Licensed in the Mamaste Yoga method and follow our guidelines in their classes. Check out our Teacher Directory to find a class in your area.

Mother's Den was designed with a birthing mother's comfort in mind. Mother's Den is nestled on almost an acre of land at the base of Sunrise Mountain. The 3000 sqare foot house has a spa like atmosphere and is certain to make you feel welcome, safe and special.

Mother's Den has all of the amenities of home and so much more. Looking around you would never guess that all of the equipment and supplies ready for any situation are neatly tucked away in the rare event they are needed. Warm, cozy, natural colors cover the walls and floors. Soft furniture will invite you to gather and share birth stories and advice.

Help yourself to the growing library. Borrow books and lend books. The best way to decrease fear of the unknown is to become educated. Knowledge is power.

On the ground floor of Mother's Den you will experience completely private prenatal visits in the office and afterwards you can mingle with other mothers in the living areas or attend scheduled classes.

Upstairs in your private, spacious birth room you canchoose to labor in the birth tub. Or,if you prefer, walk around the house, rock in the rocking chair, use the birth ball, cook in the kitchen, take a long hot shower, nap with your significant other, or watch movies. It is expected and encouraged that you see and treat Mother's Den as your home. Our goal is to make you feel safe, nurtured and cared for - the kind of environment that allows you to labor and birth freely, without inhibition or fear.

Projects underway:

* Back yard: japanese garden, lap pool with wet deck, jacuzzi, outdoor kitchen, outdoor firepit.

* Fitness Center: weights, mats, treadmill and prenatal yoga space.

    Waterbirth International
Waterbirth International was founded in 1988 with one purpose in mind:

"To make waterbirth an available option for all women."

To accomplish that incredible vision changes have to be made to the way we treat women in labor and the way we welcome babies into this world. To that end, Waterbirth International has been working non-stop for almost two decades providing education, training, programs, consultations and referrals for parents and practitioners alike. And there have been major accomplishments on all fronts. We are very proud of the fact that we have assisted in the installation of birth pools in over 200 hospitals in the US and several dozen in other countries around the globe, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Taiwan, China, Turkey, Germany, Argentina, Ecuador, Australia, Philippines and India to name just a few.

We have also assisted over 6000 couples with portable pool rentals for water labor and waterbirth. We take care of our clients who come to us for information, reassurance and great portable pools for home, hospital or birth center. Countless more couples have watched our videos and DVDs and shared them with family, friends and providers. All of this has helped change the consciousness of birth and parenting.

Waterbirth International is one of the projects of the broader organization, Global Maternal/Child Health Association, which is our 501(c)3 umbrella organization. Global Maternal works with other NGOs, nonprofits and projects around the world, including the Gentle Birth Education Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, a mountain health clinic in Guatemala and other worthy projects. Global Maternal has donated educational materials and birth supplies to many clinics and orphanages over the past 20 years. Our projects in the former Soviet Republics just after the breakup of the Soviet Union brought over 1 million dollars worth of donated medical supplies and clothing to nine different sites in four countries, including, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Global Maternal remains committed to approaching a vast array of global problems by focusing on the source experience of birth from the mother's perspective and especially from the view of the baby entering the world. If we want to create a peaceful society it is best to begin with birth.

New for 2007, we have taken on BOLD (Birth on Labor Day) as a project. BOLD's mission is to make maternity care mother-baby-friendly through global education, truth and action. Through performances of the play, Birth, by Playwright, Karen Brody and BOLD Talkbacks that follow the play, we are asking communities to start taking a serious look at how to improve the birthing climate for pregnant mothers. What do mothers want? What do they deserve? What do babies need? These are some of the tough questions BOLD is asking. These are the questions that will be addressed at the Gentle Birth World Congress.
