Colorful monoprints dealing with Chicano and Southwest themes and imagery. Series of work include Angels (Angeles), Dreams (Sueños), Hearts (Corazones), Gallos/Romanticos, Luchadores (wrestlers), Pepe (semi-perverse spiritual guide) and The Cisco Kid. The work is influenced by the desert heat, the colors of the desert, dreaming, proximity (or lack of) to the ocean, border towns and Spanglish. Subtle humor with a delusional macho and spiritual twist.

Joe is a painter and printmaker living in Scottsdale, Arizona - a place with lots of great sunrises and sunsets. Most of Joe's work is reflective of a bi-cultural perspective formed by the Arizona and Mexico region, the people that live in that region as well as a contemporary Chicano perspective. This work speaks to the Mexicano, the Chicano, the Hispanic and the Gavacho. Joe is also Creative Director and Principal of Estudio Ray, a strategic design and branding firm in Phoenix, Arizona.

On making art, I realized that I had to stop taking things so serious. I also realized that it's best to go with the flo and see where it takes me. I began to accept that certain dreams were really my departed friends and family speaking to me. Time to listen. Now I need to find the questions to my answers, especially since none of my angels have broken wings.
