MSW LCSW

Description

I utilize a therapy called Self-Acceptance Healing. This consists of an adaptation of Bioenergetics (in that it is less physically intrusive), Gestalt Therapy, Inner Child/Adult Therapy, Dream work. Self-Acceptance has a primary focus on the body, the intent of which is to make contact with one's self through awareness, focus, compassion, posture, movement and a grounded and boundaried release of suppressed emotion. I also engage in talk therapy which is informed by neo-psychodynamics, some object relations, parenting skills and relationship skills, cognitive techniques, etc. In this eclectic manner, I aim to have a balanced approach which is tailored to each client's unique needs and desires. I have also been running occasional weekend workshops, for those who may benefit from group work.

Profile and Credentials

I am an MSW LCSW 990-123 in the state of Wisconsin. I also have a BS in Occupational Therapy. As an Occupational Therapist I worked for 8 years in psychiatric day treatment of chronically mentally ill individuals. As an MSW I worked for 4 years in Crisis Intervention in Milwaukee County. I have been in Private Practice since 1989. I have experience with adult individuals and couples. I have worked extensively with members of religious communities, and have some understanding of their unique issues. I cover a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, abuse history. I am skilled and judicious in assessment of abuse histories, and I do believe in delayed memory.

Philosophy and Comments

People pursue therapy because they are in pain, or are causing pain to those around them. Pain is, in fact, part and parcel (but should not be all) of the human experience. Emotion (which means "to move out") is our inborn gift which allows us to process, release and often resolve pain. When we have been shamed or even punished for expressing our feelings as children, we can become separated from our intuitive use of grounded emotion. We learn to hold in or back, etc. which then leads to a prison of pain. This can then be expressed as anxiety, depression, physical problems, addiction, behavioral issues etc. This prevents us from fully experiencing the joys of our own body/spirit, and from enjoying the people and world around us. Therapy does not necessarily eliminate pain, but provides a way to manage it and release it. Therapy can, in fact, sometimes increase pain, as you grow in the strength to face your truths. This may be especially true in people who have been numb or afraid of their emotions. Learning to feel and safely release these emootions helps open you to experience the beaty and pleasure in living. My office is in a lovely residential area and is very peaceful and private. Many clients have told me that this setting feels especially safe for them.

Work Hours and Fee Schedule

I work approximately from 3-8PM on weekdays, with some flexibility, but never mornings. My weekend work shops are usually a Friday night from 6:30 to 9:30 and Saturday from 11AM to 6PM. My hourly fee is $100 and I try to give as much of that hour as possible (as opposed to the 45 or 50 min. hour that many therapist provide). My weekend groups are $150, and participants bring a dish to pass for a potluck lunch. I do not take insurance. A good number of my clients have found that their insurance companies will reimburse them when they present their paid statements. If this is something your company will do, I will be sure to provide dianosis and treatment codes on your statement. In cases of hardship I may be willing to discuss a sliding scale for payment. Payment is due at the time of the session
