Philosophy and Comments

BEFORE YOU GO IN THE STUDIO! There are certain things I recommend before recording your project in the studio to make sure that you get the most for your money and you get the results that you are looking for.
I have experienced clients who want to compose, rehearse, and then record their project all in the studio. This process takes a lot of time and money, and because the musicians do not own the music, a mediocre result is sometimes the outcome.
I recommend that you give your project a lot of thought and that all the talent involved have their parts down, so that when you come in, only a few takes are done for each track.
It is preferable that the musicians involved can play your song with a metronome, but not necessary. Your music will sound much more tight if they can play to a click track.
It is always good to have a vision of what you want your project to sound like. What do you want for the mix of your music or film? Panning? Sound Effects? EQ? How many tracks for each instrument or voice do you want to use? Any Sound Design ideas? You need Foley, ADR, Backgrounds added (for film only)?
Also. Make sure that the instruments you use for the recording produce the sound that you are looking for and they sound as good as possible.
Make sure that your drums are tuned so that there are no excessive over tones or they don't sound too muffled. I can tune your drums for you if needed, but that does take time in the studio to do. I offer FOR FREE a brief drum tuning lesson for you so that you can go home and tune your own drums before you come in the studio to record.

ABOUT ME. Thanks for coming and checking out my ByRegion site. My name is Theo Mordey. I have been very deeply involved with music since I was seven years old when I picked up my first drum sticks. Since then, I have had an enriched musical career which eventually also transcended into the sound arena. I have had the opportunity to play drums for some great musicians and be involved with exciting projects. After getting my Bachelor's Degree from The California Institute Of the Arts in Valencia, I got asked to play drums/percussion on tour with Jesus Christ Super Star, Tommy, and then Evita. After returning from those tours and having been a part of many recording projects as a drummer and having taught drum lessons for years, I decided that I wanted to be involved in all aspects of music and film, so I got into the recording engineering/post production side as well. I started off with a Hard Drive Portable 16 Track which, many recordings and mixes later, evolved into my Pro Tools Studio that I have today. In that time, I have worked on a lot of film and music projects with many happy clients, and also received a Certificate Of Completion in Pro Tools/Recording Engineering/Post Production from Video Symphony.
