The Doula School

Description        

The Doula School (TDS) strives to offer the most comprehensive Doula training and certification available, each program uses classroom training, guest speakers, art, literature, reading and hands on activities to teach the skills necessary to support new families during the transition from pregnancy to parenthood. We believe that this will enable you to practice with professionalism and confidence whether you are a new Doula just beginning your career or an experienced professional expanding her practice.

Profile and Credentials        

TREESA MCLEAN, founder of The Doula School, is a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator and Doula Educator. Treesa became aware of the need for more in depth training for Doulas when many of the newly trained Doulas in her area looked to her for mentoring and guidance as they built their own Doula practices. She opened The Doula School based on the philosophy that that all Doulas should have the opportunity for comprehensive education, training, and continuing support.



Treesa began her Doula training with Full Circle Childbirth Services in 1983 as a Labor Coach, and continued with Traditional Midwifery training in 1989. She has attended Heart and Hands Midwifery Intensive, Birthing From Within level one, and been trained as a peer counselor through The Nursing Mothers Counsel. Treesa has attended birth in her community since 1983 and her private Postpartum Doula practice focuses on supporting families with an emphasis on breastfeeding, twins and special needs babies



The teachers at TDS are experienced l Birth and Postpartum Doulas, Childbirth and Parent Educators, and Massage Therapists, who have worked collectivly for over 80 years in the birthing community.


Philosophy and Comments        

The Doula School believes all new families should have access to non-judgmental physical and emotional support during pregnancy, birth, and early parenting.



The Doula School believes that Doula care is its own unique art. It is the non-medical physical and emotional support of families during pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting.



The Doula School believes that all Doulas should have the opportunity for comprehensive education, training, and continuing support.



The Doula School believes that childbirth professions have an obligation to seek continuing education.


Work Hours and Fee Schedule        

The tuition for The Doula School is as follows

4 day workshops $450 if registered two weeks before start of class or $575 within 13 days of class

2 Day workshops $200 if registered two weeks before start of class or $250 within 13 days of class

1 day workshops $100 if registered two weeks before start of class or $120 within 13 days of class

Individual mentoring with The Doula School staff $75 an hour.

Three hours of individual mentoring with a TDS instructor

The tuition for this package is $1200 if registered two weeks before the first day of the Birth Doula Training, it is $1500 if registered within 13 days and is a $1475 value.

Advanced Doula Package

3 one day or 1 two day and 1 one day workshops for $270 if registered two weeks before the first class.



Birth and Postpartum Combined Training and Certification        

The Doula School Birth and Postpartum Training and Certification includes 100 hours of instruction, TDS Resource Binder, and TDS Portfolio. When completing TDS you will have the academic and practical knowledge necessary to develop a successful Doula practice of their own. As new Doulas you will also have had the opportunity to network with other Birth professionals and to explore the lifestyle of a Doula. The Doula School provides a safe and nurturing environment to learn, grow and design your own practice. Some may chose to take only the birth or postpartum portion of the Training and Certification and that will be reflected in tier tuition.

Postpartum Doula Training and Certification        

TDS Postpartum Doula Intensive focuses on the practical skills needed for Postpartum Doula care while learning about the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the postpartum family. Using a variety of teaching styles we will discuss, processing the birth story, making space for baby, new family adjustment, breastfeeding and new mother healing. The 4-day workshop will include information on networking with in the community, interviewing skills, growing a practice and you will receive a TDS resource binder and TDS portfolio. When completed, TDS Postpartum Doula certification will enable you to develop or expand your Doula practice with ease and confidence.


Birth Doula Certification        

TDS Birth Doula Intensive includes: anatomy & physiology of pregnancy & childbirth, physical & emotional coping strategies for labor, midwifery/medical models of care, and working with other childbirth professionals. In this 4-day workshop you will receive a TDS resource binder, TDS portfolio and TDS certification requirements. As you complete TDS Birth Doula Certification you will gain the experience, knowledge and practical skills needed to support women and their families during labor & birth and to develop your own personalized Doula practice.

Advanced Birth and Postpartum Doula Workshops        

These oneday workshops are offered on a variety of subjects and can be packaged into a mini confrence for your Doula community.
