WHAT COLOR ARE YOU?
What are your definitions of various colors? What "labels" do you use . . what color do you think you are/

April 15th 2009 - What COLOR Are YOU?

Oh - I don’t mean your skin color, ethnicity or any other variation of that type of color definition. Inside, we humans are all the same shades of flesh, bone, connective tissues, fat and veins – these interior parts are PINK, RED, WHITE, PURPLE, BROWN and numerous other colors.

That reminds me of an anonymous written piece reflecting a black man who addresses the term “colored” as it applies to race:

“Being Colored !
Being Colored:
When I was born...I was BLACK.
When I grew up...I was BLACK.
When I am sick...I am BLACK
When I go out in the sun...I am BLACK.
When I go out in the cold...I am BLACK.
When I die...I am BLACK.
BUT YOU WHITE FOLK :
When you are born...You are PINK.
When you grow up...You are PEACH.
When you are sick...You are GREEN.
When you go out in the cold...You are BLUE.
When you are scared... You are WHITE.
When you go out in the sun...You are RED.
When you die...You turn PURPLE.
And you have the nerve to call me "COLORED"!
. . . . Author unknown “
And – perhaps you’ve heard these color definitions used:
• When we blush, our faces flush “pink”
• When we are embarrassed, we’re called “red-faced”,
• When we lack courage, we are termed “yellow”,
• When we are jealous – we are “green” with envy.
• When we are sad or depressed, we are “blue”
• Or when very upset, we are “purple with rage”
• Some seriously ill people have a grey skin tone
• When frightened – some people’s faces turn white
Recently, my sister loaned me a little packet of information used for determining what color a person – in some sort of “personality profile” system – so I could “type” myself. I knew before I started that it would not be possible for me to choose just ONE color. .

I decided I was “mud” which is what would happen if you combine all four colors – blue for harmony, orange for adventurous, gold for responsible & green for curious. OR instead of being “mud” - what actually makes more sense is that I am a rainbow and it feels better to see those colors as brilliant separate parts of the whole, rather than blended all together into a somewhat dull, brownish hue. And I suspect all of us are rainbows rather than a murky mono-hue. And multiple, separate colors are less likely to be stereotyped- which also feels better.

The width of the individual strips may be larger or smaller for some of the colors, but the whole is a spectrum and is multi-colored – far from being a monotone.

The Story of Colors

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful. The favorite.

Green said: "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority."

Blue interrupted: "You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."

Yellow chuckled: "You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun."

Orange started next to blow her trumpet: "I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papayas. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you."

Red could stand it no longer he shouted out: "I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy."

Purple rose up to his full height: He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey."

Finally Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."

And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.

In the midst of the clamor, rain began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me."

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. The rain continued: "From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow." And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a Rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another

The Color of Politics

It amuses me how the political “right” and “left” have come to identify with red and blue. Red seems to represent conservatism, less tolerance, more control and a more narrow view. Whereas, blue seems to represent a more liberal view, compassion, more openness & balance. (Of course, these definitions are according to MY view but I suspect many agree.)

Hmm – it seems that these two opposites are somewhat parallel with:
• red = yang (male energy)
• blue = yin (female energy).

What do you get when you combine blue and red? PURPLE! To me, purple symbolizes majesty, mastery, strength & divinity. Perhaps purple, the color which could represent combining those opposite traits of the citizenry – working together in the middle for the common good - is the ultimate solution for our world, the supreme color of humanity! Purple has also been associated with traits such as free-spirited, intuitive, adventurous, unconventional, optimistic and with high aspirations.

In some gemstone and color science circles – white and clear symbolize clarity, purity, cleansed, fresh new start, renewal, objectivity, wholeness, completion, openness and truth.

When you add clear or white to purple – the result is VIOLET.

In the world of religion, some associate the color violet with the Passion of Christ. You will see violet and yellow – symbolizing the return of spring with the yellow daffodils and other flowers. Ascended Master, St.Germain, is associated with the color violet and the highest principles of liberty and freedom.

The violet family of colors was considered very unconventional and provocative during the 1960’s and came to symbolize a young generation searching for freedom.
Many of us believe that now, in the 21st century, our society is evolving (it is true, but sometimes you don’t notice it because of the parallel lower vibration patterns still very much alive and tenacious.). You may have to look for it; or better yet, create a piece of it yourself! At least a part of our humanity is now striving for peace, justice, environmental sustainability, balance, self actualization and oneness.
So – through my “lenses” what I see is a perfect rainbow made up of all of our beautiful individual rainbows - with just the right ratio of each hue. And, through the collective reaching to the highest good TOGETHER – WE are VIOLET.
