July 01st 2011 - When people ask the question “who are you?" the answer is usually “I am John”, “I’m a woman” or “I am human”, etc. When we refer to ourselves, often times we are talking about ourselves “the body”, tangible, living and vulnerable to illnesses.
Most people go about their life believing they are indeed the body they possess; some take good care of it as others do not give it the care or respect it needs and deserves. But what gives life to the body? How does it move around and perform all the functions that it’s required to stay alive? Science teaches us how the body works and its mechanics but it does not yet know exactly “WHAT” makes it all work.
The “WHAT” that science can’t put their proof finger on is the soul. The soul is the "I" that inhabits the body and acts through it. Without the soul, the body is like a car without an engine, a balloon without air, or a CD player with no CD. Your body is very important as it is what houses your soul and without it, you would not be able to experience life as you do.
As important as the body is to the soul, not everyone thinks of it that way. As a living, breathing, perfect life form, the body is nonetheless susceptible to breaking down if you fail to properly care for it. We all get sick every now and then with an unexpected cold or flu due to viruses. However there are those who suffer all the time from different types of disorders such as acid reflux, eczema, or allergies for example, which can be prevented or reversed most of the time just by properly eating wholesome food rather than eating food filled with preservatives which goes against the nature of your body.
I am not a medical doctor and I can not tell anyone how to care for their body, but I have always believed that the human body is a perfect living machine capable of many things and if loved and cared for, would never fail or breakdown. When you feed your body with foods such as vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes, you are feeding life to it and by doing so the body will thrive with positive healing energy provided by nature.
There are only three things your body needs to stay alive and those are; water, food and air. Just like a car needs good gasoline to run at its best, your body needs healthy food to function at its best. Avoiding fast food restaurants, packaged foods filled with preservatives and pasteurized products can be the beginning to a healthy new start.
Keeping the body hydrated is as important as eating for proper muscle and brain function. A good rule of thumb to remember is to drink half your weight in ounces every day, for example; if you are 150 pounds you should drink 75 ounces of water per day for proper hydration.
As important as water is for proper muscle and brain function, air is vital for optimal health. As simple as it may seem to breathe, adults tend to take short, shallow breaths and not allow the lungs to fully expand. By breathing in fully and deeply you are allowing the cells to carry clean oxygen to the organs and rest of the body. .
Starting today make a conscious effort to care for and feed your self in a wholesome, holistic way. Maintain a healthy and vibrant body because you are A Soul With a Living Body.
