Native American Indian Meditation To The Four Corners Of The Earth

November 18th 2007 - Meditations To The Four Directions

EAST MEDITATION

Close your eyes. Ground and center. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Let your breathing be deep and even.

You are in a beautiful meadow. It is dawn. You can see the pink streaks as the clouds part for the first rays of the sun to come over the horizon. You can feel the cool breeze as it touches your skin. You are at peace.

Over at one side of the meadow is a pond and beautiful woods. Peeking out of the woods there is a family of deer. They are not afraid of you, jut curious.

You can hear the birds singing and chirping in the trees. There is an eagle circling in the sky.

Slowly sink your consciousness to blend with the breeze. Feel the life force of the grass, trees and the flowers. Slowly expand this to also feel the life force of the birds and the deer. Slowly spiral your mind around until you become one with all in the meadow. Feel the breath of the Goddess on your cheek.

Now, ever so slowly, let your consciousness let go of the grass, trees and the flowers. Slowly, let go of the birds and the deer. Slowly, come back to your body. Bring back the knowledge of the Goddess is with you.

Now, move to the South.

SOUTH MEDITATION

Close your eyes. Ground and center. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Let your breathing be deep and even.

You are in a desert. But this is not a stagnant sand desert. This is a beautiful desert teeming with life. There are large cactus with their arms to the sky. There are small, hardy desert flowers at your feet. There are snakes and lizards keeping their distance. You see a rock move, and realize that it is not a rock, but a desert tortoise. It is noon and the sun is warm.

There is a bonfire to the side. You go sit in front of this lovely bonfire. You can feel the life force of the snakes and lizards. You become one with the desert and all of its warmth and passion. Float on the warm breeze and nature in all its glory. This is the anvil of the Gods where the strong are shaped.

Now, ever so slowly, let your consciousness become part of the warm sand and the cactus. Let go of the bonfire and the dragon. Now, start coming back to your body. Know that you bring back the strength of the desert with you.

Now, move to the West.

WEST MEDITATION

Close your eyes. Ground and center. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Let your breathing be deep and even.

You are sitting by seashore. It is sundown and you can see the colors of the setting sun reflected in the clouds. It is pink and blue, turning to deeper reds and indigo. You can smell the scent of the salt spray and feel the touch of the spray on your skin. You can sense the full moon just coming up behind you.

There are sandpipers to the side of you chasing the waves as they recede back to the ocean and retreating as they lap up on the shore. There are seagulls circling above. Out in the waves there is a large Sea Serpent. But you feel no danger.

You can feel the deep depths below the water. Know that there is life below the water, as there are depths within us of untapped emotion and love.

Now go within yourself. Feel your life force pulsing with the waves. Feel your blood blowing in time with the ocean. Feel yourself cocooned in the womb of the water. You are at peace.

Now, ever so slowly, let your consciousness become part of the sunset, of the ocean, of the birds, of the sea serpent. Let go of yourself and very slowly return to the present and this room. Know that you brought the love of the Lady with you and that you can use it to know yourself.

Now, move to the North.

NORTH MEDITATION

Close your eyes. Ground and center. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Let your breathing be deep and even.

It is midnight. You are walking in deep woods in the mountains. There is snow on the ground. The silence is absolute. There is nothing moving anywhere. You see a while owl immobile watching you.

You can feel the life force of the sleeping trees awaiting the return of spring. This is the time of rest and solitude. You are alone but not lonely. The stars are a shining canopy above your head. The moon is a silver crescent in the sky.

Now, slowly let your consciousness sink into the earth. Feel the age of the mountain as you go to the center. Feel the heartbeat of the Mother. Feel the stability of the mountain and of the earth.

Now, slowly let yourself rise to the surface, back to the quiet woods, deep in the winter. Know that you bring back the endurance and stability to walk the path of this life.

Now, open your eyes and return.
