  • Reiki

The word “reiki” means universal life force energy. Reiki is a system based on ancient healing traditions with origins in Buddhism. It is a spiritual practice and form of meditation that balances the physical body system, electromagnetic field and subtle energy in and around the body. Reiki is about receiving energy from the universe through others or oneself. Reiki came to the US in its present form from Japan 65 years ago.

    A REIKI SESSION

The Reiki practitioner uses a soft, light, completely non-invasive touch on the body or places hands above the body to focus this spiritually guided, intelligent energy. During the session the client lies on a treatment table, fully clothed. Often, meditative music is used to enhance the experience.

    REIKI CAN HELP

Reiki accelerates and supports the body’s natural healing process for relief, general prevention and wellness. It helps reduce stress, relieve pain, balance emotions and facilitate personal and spiritual growth. Reiki adds energy from a universal source to one’s own energy, creating an energetically strong environment for the physical body, emotions, mind and spirit to maximize their potential.

    Polarity

Polarity is a self-empowering practice which balances the negative and positive energy poles of the body It is a blending of several healing systems including ancient Ayurvedic, reflexology, cranio-sacral, yoga, nutrition and counseling.

Polarity works within the body’s electromagnetic field, clearing and strengthening the energy pathways, allowing the body to heal itself on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels.

    A POLARITY SESSION

A Polarity session is done with the client fully clothed on a treatment table. It is entirely safe and non-invasive with a touch on or off the body. Sound is used in the form of music, or tuning forks, to attune the energetic vibrations of the body.

    POLARITY CAN HELP

In Polarity, a safe, non-judgmental environment is created to support the body in balancing its own individual life energy. It is a practice that is self-empowering, with the practitioner acting as a facilitator. With balanced energy it becomes possible to experience inner peace, harmony, balance, joy and freedom from our self-imposed barriers and limitations.

    Meditation

    What’s wrong with stress?

“I like my stress. It helps me to work my best -- I’m more productive when I’m stressed,” my friend told me.

Well, I have good news and bad news for my friend…

Stress is the "wear and tear" our bodies, minds and spirits experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create positive or negative feelings.

As a positive influence, stress can help compel us to action; it can result in a new awareness and an exciting new perspective. This is the kind of stress my friend enjoys.

As a negative influence, it can result in feelings of distrust, rejection, anger, isolation and depression, which in turn can lead to physical health problems such as headaches, upset stomach, rashes, insomnia, ulcers, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Research has shown that as a result of prolonged stress, hormones and other biochemical compounds in the blood actually change, producing an even higher level of daily stress on the body.

Recent survey results have shown that 60% and 90% of visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related problems.

What can I do NOW to combat

    the negative effects of stress?

    1. Start off your day with breakfast.

    2. Meditate or listen to a relaxation tape.

    3. Drink fruit juice or water instead of coffee.

    4. Organize your time -- set priorities.

    5. Don't try to be perfect.

    6. Develop a support network.

    7. Avoid “stress carriers” or “negaholics.”

    8. Make a list of what’s good about you.

    9. Optimize your health with sleep and rest.

    10. Get regular exercise; take a lunchtime walk.

    11. Celebrate birthdays and other holidays; turn more events into special occasions.

    12. Don't watch the 11 p.m. news.

    13. Give yourself praise and positive strokes.

    14. Treat yourself to “new and good things.”

    15. Be assertive. Learn to express your needs, make requests and to say “no.”

    16. Ask questions and ask for help when needed.

    17. Allow extra time to get to appointments.

    18. Take 10 deep, cleansing breaths.

    19. Understand that we do not all see or do things in the same way.

    20. Practice mindfulness; live in the moment.

    21. Become a less aggressive driver.

    22. Ask yourself, “Is this really important?” or “Will this really matter a year from now?”

    23. Practice “Letting it go.”

    24. Resist the urge to judge, gossip or criticize.

    25. Be flexible with change; seek out the good.

    26. Pray, speak to God, a higher power or your inner guide.

How does meditation help? Are there other benefits?

    Stress Control:

Most of the people who meditate do so because of its positive effects on stress.

Research has shown that hormones and other biochemical compounds in the blood indicative of stress tend to decrease during meditation practice. These changes also stabilize over time, so that a person is actually less stressed biochemically during daily activity. This reduction of stress translates directly into a reduction of anxiety and tension.

    Depression:

Feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and isolation are hallmarks of depression-the nation's most prevalent mental health problem. Meditation increases self-confidence and feelings of connection to others.

    Prolonging Life Expectancy:

Only two factors have been scientifically determined to actually extend life: caloric restriction and lowering of the body's core temperature. Meditation has been shown to lower core body temperature.

    Other:

Pain management, cancer and other chronic illness, heart disease, high blood pressure, infertility, psoriasis, respiratory crises, PMS, tension headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, insomnia, fibromyalgia, anxiety and panic attacks benefit from regular meditation practice.
