Dr.Richard Kitaeff, naturopathic physician and acupuncturist, has practiced for 30 years. He has been founder and director of New Health Medical Center, one of the oldest and largest natural medicine centers combining all forms of natural medicine, for the past 25 years. He was the first Western graduate of Meiji University of Oriental Medicine in Japan, and was licensed by the Japanese government as an acupuncturist in 1975. He was also a member of the first graduating class of naturopathic physicians from Bastyr University in 1982. He was the founder and president of the Acupuncture Association of Washington, and has founded, directed and lectured in acupuncture training programs at Bastyr and internationally. He has has also lectured internationally at professional conferences and published articles and chapters in professional journals and textbooks of naturopathic medicine and acupuncture. His original research on acupuncture and endorphins, the first study to show effectiveness of acupuncture in controlling pain through the use of an objective measure (EEG), was published in the journal Pain. In 1999, he became the first and only naturopathic physician or acupuncturist to be appointed to the staff of a major Northwest hospital. He also has privileges at rehabilitation hospitals, where he treats stroke patients with acupuncture. Dr. Kitaeff's clinic has introduced to this country Asian acupuncture techniques for chronic pain control and nervous system disorders, as well as European medical spa methods of internal cleansing and medicinal bath and pack applications for pain, immune enhancement,allergies, skin disorders, hormone balancing, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. He utilizes metabolic testing of blood, hair, saliva and urine samples to evaluate mineral, amino acid, hormone and other building blocks of health, as well as food and environmental allergens, and systemic yeast, bacteria and other micro-organisms. Treatment programs integrate individual food plans according to individual body type or constitution; specific botanical, nutritional, hormonal or homeopathic medications; acupuncture or non-needle laser stimulation, electrical and manual therapy, and spinal manipulation. Our clinic treats the whole person, both to control symptoms with non-toxic natural remedies (and, when necessary, with antibiotic or hormone medications), and to discover and eliminate the underlying causes of acute or chronic disorders. While metabolic or nutritional remedies are essential for long-term control of chronic deficiencies and imbalances, acupuncture and other physical medicine modalities are equally important for immediate control of various symptoms through direct nervous system action on pain and energy patterns. By comparison, conventional medicine uses high-cost, high-tech testing that does not always lead to useful treatment; suppressive, toxic drug medications that do not often treat the underlying causes of disease; and radical surgery that can be unsuccessful and can have irreversible side-effects. At the same time, our clinic recognizes the superiority of conventional medicine in treating emergency and many acute conditions, and as a hospital staff member, Dr. Kitaeff has the opportunity to work in close association with family physicians, neurologists,endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, obstetricians, orthopedists, rheumatologists. psychiatrists and other medical and paramedical specialists.

Office hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. Mondays through Fridays and occasional Saturdays by special appointment. Most insurance covers Dr. Kitaeff and other practitioners at his clinic, either as in-network or out-of-network providers. For cases in which the clinic cannot bill directly to the insurance, a coded insurance bill is provided for reimbursement.
