My ceramic work draws inspiration from many sources: the age worn patinas of Chinese bronzes, Mayan architecture, African textiles, and the dreamlike animal fetishes of Inuit artifacts. The pieces are wheel thrown, slip cast, and hand-built, and then altered and incised. Each interior is glazed with a rich teal non-porous porcelain glaze rendering it ideal for use as a vase. I achieve the transparent leather-like surface by burnishing with layers of pigments. These one-of-a-kind pieces are extremely durable and resistant to compromise by the passage of time.
