Fusion is composed primarily with broad brush strokes. The bold amorphous shapes and floating ribbons of color intersect and overlap, creating 'texture.' My ceramic work draws inspiration from many sources: the age worn patinas of Chinese bronzes, Mayan architecture, African textiles, and the dreamlike animal fetishes of Inuit artifacts. The pieces are wheel thrown, slip cast, and hand-built, and then altered and incised. Each interior is glazed with a rich teal non-porous porcelain glaze rendering it ideal for use as a vase. I achieve the transparent leather-like surface by burnishing with layers of pigments. Sketchbook mugs are painted with predominately thin lined cartoon-like abstract images. The light and airy figures playfully dance across the mug's surface and handle. Sketchbook is the design on my pottery purchased by the Smithsonian's Museum of American Art for their permanent collection.
