How and Why Sound Therapy Works

by Diane Mandle / Certified Sound Healer
During our normal waking state, the normal frequency of our brain waves is that of Beta. Sound tools entrain the brain to move into the deeper Alpha and Theta brain wave frequencies. These are the frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind and intuition. Modern medicine can now measure and thus confirm the practice of sound as a means to heal. Vibrational Sound from Tibetan Singing Bowls has such proven results. Mitchel Gaynor, MD is the clinical professor at Weill-Cornell Medical College and founder of Gaynor Integrative Oncology in New York City. The August 2003 issue of Spirituality and Health magazine reports the success he has had treating victims of life threatening disease and especially cancer patients through sound therapy including Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls and chanting. Dr. Gaynor states "If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes. Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder."

Feng Shui for Offices

by Aroon Ajmera / Feng Shui Consultant, Teacher and Author
The constantly changing invisible energy forces in an office can have a dramatic impact on the physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of its employees and also the health of the business. Offices already use the services of Interior Designers to enhance the comfort and aesthetics of the working environment. A Feng Shui consultation takes you one step further. It focuses on the energy of space and by introducing subtle changes, converts it into a supportive and harmonious workspace. By incorporating the Feng Shui principles in the layout of an office, you can positively influence staff morale, creativity and team spirit. This in turn reduces absenteeism and staff turnover. Conflict and internal competition between employees can also be minimised. When you pay attention to how and where people sit, the colours, materials and the amount of natural light in an environment, their efficiency will soar, making a significant contribution to the success and the profitability of a business.

Mad Cow Disease: Are Pets at Risk Too?

by Shawn Messonnier, DVM / Author of The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats
Mad Cow Disease is unlikely to affect dogs and cats, although theoretically possible (although so far cats but not dogs appear susceptible to MCD.) To date Iíve never seen any credible reports of this in recent years in pets in the US. However, in my opinion, there is a greater chance of MCD affecting our pets than ourselves. Why? Because most pet foods do not contain the healthiest of ingredients. Many brands of food contain ingredients such as animal by-products, meat by-products, and meat and bone meal. These are the ingredients most likely to contain nervous tissue (brain and spinal cord) of cattle. And since so many pet foods contain these less-than-healthy ingredients, cattle (and other infected ruminants such as sheep and deer) infected with Mad Cow Disease can easily and quickly infect our pet food supply (earlier this year one Canadian manufacturer recalled dog food that contained rendered parts from an infected cow.) Whatís the solution? Simple. First, whenever possible, pet owners can prepare nutritious homemade recipes for their pets, which will totally prevent MCD in their pets. Second, if preparing food at home is not possible, learning to read the label on the petís food will allow the pet owner to choose foods that do not contain potentially infected material.

Sexuality and Herbal Aphrodisiacs

Gail Faith Edwards / Herbalist and Founder of Blessed Maine Herbs
Offering natural nourishment and support for the energy and creativity of eroticism, herbal aphrodisiacs can help increase, enhance, stimulate, and maintain existing physical desire, and thus nourish sexuality. All cultures and peoples of the world have used, and continue to use, aphrodisiacs. Aphrodisiacs are defined here as plant substances that affect the mind as well as the body. Their use is documented to at least 60,000 years ago. Some aphrodisiacs gently nourish a lagging libido; others kick it into high gear. Used ethically, aphrodisiacs can be appreciated as a source of joy; plant spirits that help us celebrate our love for life. They are traditionally used in a variety of ways. Proven aphrodisiacs include rose, honey, chocolate, cannabis, angelica, opium, ginseng, and many culinary spices. Essential oils that stimulate sexuality include rose, sandalwood, ylang/ylang, patchouli, cinnamon, and vanilla.

The Angel of Awareness

by Christopher Dilts /
Angels are accepted in almost every religion and culture as "Messengers of God." I experience them as aspects of God's love given to us in perfect wisdom in each moment. Every Angel has a special purpose and carries the very qualities to us that are most helpful. I called upon the Angel of Awareness to bring us a special message for this issue:
"... Awareness is truly a simple practice of finding love in every person, place, thing or experience. It is being in the love that is present in each moment. If you were to believe that there is unlimited love in every moment, including this one, how would you change your thinking, behavior, what you say and how you say it? As you accept our blessings and our gifts of grace and healing, you are actually entering, yourself, step by step into ever deepening levels of love and heaven. Remember that we can only offer - it is for you to accept. Accept yourself as a being of unlimited love, of unlimited consciousness, of unlimited grace. We know you as this and truly your own soul, in its wisdom, knows itself as this as well. With love beyond measure, with kindness and compassion, we are with you in every moment."

Resolutions: Who's Idea Was This Anyway?

by Ken Myrback / Certified Hypnotherapist and Energy Healer
I know resolutions sound like a good idea in theory; resolving to change your ways, turning over a new leaf, starting a new, starting with a clean slate. The problem is, this is not a magical new year. Its not as if we are starting with a truly clean slate. We have all the same habits and patterns we had last year and the year before and the year before that. You see, habits are harder to change than a simple resolution can really deal with. I would like you to take a minute and really consider this question: Which is more powerful, willpower or imagination? Many people would say willpower because they feel themselves to be strong-minded. However, if you ask those same people how last years New Year's resolutions are going, most of them probably wouldn't even be able to tell you what those resolutions were. Using a process called "re-framing", if we were to ask those same people to think of a resolution and "imagine" themselves achieving that goal, I'd be willing to bet all of them would be able to imagine themselves achieving their goal.

Healing the Will with Flower Essences

by Holly Beatie / Creator of High Sierra Botanicals
As incarnated human beings, we have much work to do on our emotional bodies before we can truly become centered in our Wills. And this must happen before we can receive the new Light and higher frequencies that are coming in as the new blueprints are activated. The Will of course is directly connected with the third (solar plexus) chakra. In order to honor and awaken this place in ourselves, emotional release is essential. One of my favorite tools that lends relentless love and support to encourage us through our process of self understanding and acceptance, discernment and integration is, of course, flower essences. Here are some flower essences that specifically focus on helping to heal the Will: Echinacea, Amaranth, California Fuschia, Gayophytum, Hyacinth Brodiaea.
