Michael Thomas Cash showed up in the Washington DC metro area in 1984 and began making the rounds of the open mics playing covers. He quickly became popular and after hanging out at Gallagher’s Pub and becoming inspired by the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter and John Jennings, he honed his vocal and guitar playing skills until he developed the chops to get hired around town for solo, duo, and trio gigs. Slowly he began to write and perform his own songs. After a family tragedy he hooked up with Ricky Wilkins, co-owner of The Hungry Dog Café. Michael again had a venue to hang out at and hone his skills. Soon, Ricky and others encouraged him to make a CD resulting in the debut “Dancing My Name”.

"Dancing My Name" received a reader's choice award from Kweevak Music Magazine as one of the top 35 music projects for 2005. Michael was chosen as one of the top 20 songwriters in Maryland, DC, and Virginia by the Mountain Stage Newsong Festival.

Michael writes and sings songs that portray the human condition through those characters and moments that help us define, heal, and expand ourselves. If it means exposing a wound to do so, then so be it.
