Description

Divorce or break-up? Fights or disconnection from your partner? Co-parenting? Family conflict? Difficult boss or co-worker? Self-improvement is not enough in these cases. Communication improvement is necessary and possible...and I can help you accelerate and enjoy the process.

Skillful, conscious communication is an essential component of joyful living. You can deepen your connection with those you love, and resolve the conflicts in your life. It is both possible and hugely satisfying to remain in integrity with your personal and spiritual values even in challenging interactions, while expressing your true feelings more fully than ever! I can help you, working in person or remotely over the phone or Internet.

In addition to communication training, I also provide mediation and meeting facilitation services, both by phone, Skype (internet phone), and in person.

Profile and Credentials

Completed over three years of intensive training and apprenticeship in mediation and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with John Kinyon, co-founder of the Bay Area Center for Nonviolent Communication.

Also received extensive training from Marshall Rosenberg PhD., founder of the Center for Nonviolent Communication.

My previous experience in teaching, school administration, and corporate management has also contributed greatly to my skills in communication, and conflict resolution.

Philosophy and Comments

Improved communication skills will transform your personal and professional relationships, and your enjoyment of life. Mastering peaceful and authentic communication saves you time and stress.

I'm frequently asked whether I believe people can really improve their communication skills, and whether it's really possible to resolve conflicts peacefully. The question always surprises me, as I see real change and resolution happening for so many people on a weekly basis. A little practice is required, but the rewards are huge.

I know Newt as a highly skilled communication coach, teacher and performer. I find that his awareness, compassion and imagination allow him to be an exteremely creative communicator. Newt is gifted with strong intuition and the courage to speak honestly, even in the most difficult situations.

In the NVC practice group that I attend, I find Newt's perspective often shines a unique light on the problem at hand.

I throughly enjoy his warmth and sophisticated sense of humor.

I've sent several friends to Newt when they were in need of support and guidance to handle conflict in their relationships. They all report big learning and discovery in thier sessions with him. I highly recommend Newt Bailey as a coach and trainer.

Newt Bailey is truly refreshing. The teachings of Non-Violent Communication (NVC) is amazing and curious. The practice of NVC is thought-provoking and challenging. Newt understands even the smallest nuances of both verbal and non-verbal communication, and is able to teach his methods in a nurturing environment that encourages progress.

I thought I was a "good communicator" before I took his classes; and even after three sessions, I am absolutely convinced that I have stumbled upon a rare gem of an opportunity to enhance all of my current and future relationships with both intimates and acquaintances alike. Having the abilities to participate as an active listener and as a passionate purposeful communicator, I feel prepared with Newt's teachings.

I would not hesitate to recommend him with 5 stars to anyone who is interested in enhancing their communication style, strategy, approach, and relationships.

I have worked one-on-one with Newt Bailey in recent years as a communication coach, and really benefited from his expertise, empathy, and insight. More recently I experienced his group teaching and facilitation skills at the "Playing, Fighting, and Playfighting" 1-day workshop. This is an active, fun workshop and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to bring greater authenticity and ability to connect into even their most scary conversations. Newt brings great authenticity and humor into his teaching. His demonstrations are very instructive and often hilarious. Newt is a natural teacher, and exhibits an unusually high level of poise, calmness, and clarity in his delivery. I also really enjoyed his ability to respond spontaneously to what was arising in the workshop, while still supporting the participants in moving on to new territory when they were ready. Bring him into your organization to do trainings, see him one-on-one for coaching, or attend one of his workshops. You won't regret it!

I was dreading a conversation with my sister that I knew I needed to have---we hadn't spoken in more than a month. She was hurt, I was hurt---we both needed to be heard so badly that we couldn't really listen to each other. When I called Newt I was feeling hopeless about finding a way to repair our relationship and rebuild kindness and trust. Through a combination of empathy and role play, I found a place of emotional stability as well as a transformed way of looking at the situation. Best of all, I found understanding and compassion for both my sister and I; I no longer felt guilty and I no longer blamed her or saw her as being "wrong."

The conversation with my sister went better than I ever thought possible and I have no doubt that it was due to the presence, compassion and empathetic insight Newt offered me. My sister and I now have dinner weekly and call each other during the week---our relationship is stronger than it's been in years and continuing to get closer each day.

Since then, I have asked Newt for help in several situations---he is consistently open, honest, caring and insightful. He has my highest recommendation to anyone looking for a way to transform their relationship with themselves or others.

Newt Bailey has been a tremendous help to me both as a communication coach and group faciliator. Sessions with Newt have gone far in helping me find equanimity with others (family, friends, partner, clients, strangers on the sidewalk) in difficult situations which, in the past, would have left me stressed, baffled, and convinced that I'd be better off as a monk living in a cave. For the average sensitive person, working and living among others can be truly daunting, since humans can seem awfully moody, angry, insensitive, judgmental, and unaware. Fear of conflict can be very limiting, as can the concept that "I'm just a nice, peaceful person" and the person I have a conflict with is "screwed up" or "heartless". Newt has helped me to get to the core of what people (including myself!) are perceiving, saying, needing, and requesting when they communicate, regardless of how they do it. As a result, I'm becoming much less defensive and fearful around others knowing I have access to a key that can unlock the mystery of human conflict. Newt is warm, compassionate, patient, and inspiring. His work with mediation and communication is clearly his heart's joy, and it comes across. I recommend Newt as a coach, consultant, trainer, and guide without reservation.

What I learned from Newt has helped me with a major paradigm shift in my life. I have to take it slowly and in small doses because the depth of the learning and the practice of it takes time, but every conversation we have, his personal attitude and his own living, have helped me to see that communication plays a big role in how we see the world and how we present ourselves to it.

The tools I got from Newt help me in many aspects of my life: professional, personal, romantic.

Two thumbs up - Thank you, Newt!
